Unfortunately it seems to be a rather generic error, however there are some things to try:

Run the .exe as administrator:
Right click .exe > Run as administrator
Or, right click > properties > compatability > "Run this program as an administrator"

Another would be to try running at different quality levels, ideally try all of them.

Trying different resolutions is unlikely to help but may be worth a try.

Moving the game's folder off the desktop and just into the C drive may help but I don't think that's the issue here.

Updating graphics card drivers is another unlikely one but if nothing else works it's worth a shot.

Do you have any issues with the AI testbed?

I'll keep trying to think of more ideas and will let you know as they come.

Hm, tried all of the options listed, still kept on crashing. Graphics card doesn't need any updating (computer's only a few months old) and runs games fairly well. As for the AI testbed, haven't found any problems with it.

Looking into the logs, they suggest you are running windows 8 without the .1 update. Is that correct? That may help if you're willing to try upgrading.

Also, the Nvidia driver indo says you're on 332.60, this one should be the latest for your system: www.nvidia.co.uk/download/driverResults.aspx/77326/en-uk

I hate being at a position to recommend driver and OS updates, they've rarely helped me in the past, but I don't see much else to suggest due to the sort of issue this is.

There is one major problem with the current build where neither LAN multiplay nor singleplayer will work if you're not connected to the internet. I don't get a crash though, just an empty scene, and there's a clear error in the log about it.

I'm currently in the middle of an overdue big shift/update to some of the base code, but after that's finished I'll be prioritising the network problem.

If I think of any more suggestions I'll put them here. Let me know if you get lucky with anything or start to see different behaviour.

That's a bit odd, my computer came with the 8.1 update already installed so I'm not sure why the log says I only have 8. Might have a look at the driver thing another time, but it hasn't given me any problems with any games recently so not too sure about that either.

Let's hope that update to the code might fix up a couple things. As for now I'll just stay tuned for anything new.

  • New quick status page

    See it here: Status

I am really bad at keeping the blog up to date, and my plans have to change fairly frequently due to personal, professional, resource, and industry situation changes. This page is an attempt to have something that is quick enough to update that I am able to do it regularly. It also has very little information, so I don't have to worry about my confidence in prediction, or sharing things that are not ready. Every project that has been started will have an entry here that clearly states my current assessment of its status.

  • New plans

I think it's about time to talk about some longer term plans again. I've posted a bit about the current work on the ranged weapon interaction system, and also a bit on the HoO collaboration, but it's been a while since I said anything relating to our primary game ambitions.

We have some new plans, but it's nothing drastic. The previous plan was to develop Hunter's Moon (the werewolves) and then using all the tech it used to build a general purpose combat simulator (GPCS, as yet unnamed). That plan heavily depended on having a year or so of solid full time development; probably funded through a kickstarter.

  • A sign of things to come

With the musket and pistol kindly provided by the hearts of oak team all attention now focuses on the ranged weapon interaction system!

I am super excited about this, and I think everyone will love what I've come up with.

Time-scales are fuzzy, but hopefully not as long as it took to put the AI in place last year.

  • Colaboration with the Hearts of Oak team

This is a big announcement that should have been made a while ago, but now that the AI is implemented on the combat testbed it can't wait.

A few months ago I approached the lead developers for the Hearts of Oak project with a proposal for collaboration. Basically to provide our combat engine to them in return for publicity, assets, and the joy of contributing to such an important piece of work.

A summary of the agreement is as follows:
